Pandora's Box

Once upon a time, long, long ago, things happened that changed my life forever. I didn’t want to accept those events and feelings so, instinctively, I created parts of my self to carry those events. In time these aspects of self were no longer actively needed. They were packed away, hidden in an old trunk until I could gain the will and the strength to be whole again.

I have been opening trunks for five years. Besides old memories, I have found pain and confusion as well as vitality, determination, even compassion. The need for ceremony mentioned in the dream suggests that the next trunks may contain holy objects, dedicated to service. My duty, it appears, is to tell the tales of spiritual renewal even though I feel reluctant and ill prepared.

Dream:

It was time to find what was hidden away. Much of it was left in some old trunks in a house we had lived in many years ago. They were left unlocked so that no one would guess their value. Some thought we should have a public ceremony-a coming of age party with all the old tales. I agreed that the tales were necessary but insisted that I didn’t know them. I preferred a private setting in the hills for the ceremony, around a campfire. Perhaps to have a public event later after we had opened all the trunks and assembled the whole. The fairy tales, myths and the saga could all be told again. The child was running around, very excited that the time had come-in her lifetime. I was enlivened by the decision, too, but was aware that there was much work to be done. What is the “whole” after all? And the man kept referring to me as the one to tell the tales. I didn’t know them--maybe they are in the trunks too.
