The Juggler Holds Trump
In the therapy process feelings towards one's parents, siblings
and partners are often transferred to the therapist. As the client,
I may project unwelcome aspects of myself to the therapist as well.
It appears that Dr. W. holds all the cards but, on looking closer,
he is depicted as being diminished by that power since his head
is smaller than those he juggles. This makes sense, since in reality,
I can never know him as a person outside of the context of therapy.
Like the juggler or jester, Dr. W. uses wit and droll humor to reveal
unpleasant truths. This is the child's painting; she now holds both
comfort and protection. Dr. W. has a print on his wall of a gateway.
In its place I have painted The Rape, the image which was the gateway
leading into this healing body of work just as the original rape
was the gateway to a world of pain and confusion.
